Step 1: Initial contact
Call 424-230-6765 or email info@westsidepts.com to discuss whether telehealth physical therapy is appropriate for your condition. We'll explain the process, confirm eligibility, discuss current pricing, and answer questions about referral requirements or visit logistics.
If telehealth care seems like a good fit, we'll work with you to schedule your initial evaluation at a time that fits your availability.
Step 2: Prepare for your visit
Before your first appointment, you'll receive instructions for joining the secure video visit and guidance on how to prepare. Choose a private, well-lit space with enough room to move safely. Wear comfortable clothing that allows your physical therapist to observe the relevant movements.
Position your device (computer, tablet, or phone) so the camera can capture full-body movement when needed. You don't need special equipment—we design programs around what you have available at home.
Step 3: Initial evaluation
Your first visit is a comprehensive evaluation conducted by video. Your physical therapist will:
- Discuss your injury history, symptoms, limitations, and goals
- Observe and assess movement, strength, flexibility, and functional ability
- Explain findings and discuss a recommended treatment approach
- Teach initial exercises tailored to your current ability and home setup
- Provide a written home exercise program with instructions and any needed modifications
The evaluation typically lasts 45–60 minutes. You'll have time to ask questions and clarify any part of the plan before the visit ends.
Step 4: Follow your program
Between visits, you'll practice the exercises and activities included in your personalized program. The plan is designed to fit your schedule, space, and available equipment. Consistency and proper technique matter more than intensity or speed.
Your physical therapist will provide clear written instructions, demonstrations, and any modifications needed for pain, limitations, or progression. If you have questions or concerns between visits, contact the office for guidance.
Step 5: Follow-up visits and progression
Follow-up visits typically last 30–45 minutes and focus on:
- Reviewing your progress and any changes in symptoms
- Reassessing movement, strength, and functional improvements
- Adjusting your exercise program to match your current capacity
- Addressing barriers, questions, or concerns
- Planning next steps, including visit frequency and long-term goals
The number and frequency of follow-up visits depends on your condition, rate of progress, and goals. Some patients achieve their objectives in a few visits, while others benefit from longer-term guidance.
What makes telehealth effective
Virtual physical therapy works because skilled assessment, education, and exercise prescription can be delivered through video when the condition is appropriate for remote care. You receive professional guidance in the environment where you'll actually complete your program, which can improve adherence and real-world application.
Telehealth is not appropriate for all conditions or situations. If your needs require hands-on treatment, specialized equipment, or in-person evaluation, we'll let you know and help you find a more suitable option.
Technology requirements
You'll need a device with a camera and microphone (computer, tablet, or smartphone) and a reliable internet connection. We'll provide a secure video link before your appointment—no special software installation is required in most cases.
If you're unfamiliar with video calls or have concerns about the technology, let us know when you schedule. We can walk you through the process before your visit.
Payment and insurance
Westside Physical Therapy is a self-pay practice and does not accept insurance at this time. Services are paid directly by the patient. We'll discuss current pricing and any available package options before you schedule your first visit.
Some patients choose to submit claims to their insurance independently for possible out-of-network reimbursement. We can provide documentation, but coverage and reimbursement are not guaranteed and depend entirely on your plan.
Referrals and direct access
A referral from a licensed physician is preferred so your care can be coordinated from the start. Under applicable California direct-access rules, eligible patients may receive up to 12 visits without a referral, subject to evaluation and regulatory requirements. We confirm eligibility before your first appointment and may request a referral for continued care if needed.
